The Probate Registry handles all matters relating to the administration of estates of deceased persons, including grants of Letters of Administration and probate of wills.
Probate Registry – Utako Headquarters
The Probate Registry of the Customary Court of Appeal of the Federal Capital Territory was established in 2022. It is the designated office responsible for all matters relating to the legal rights and responsibilities connected with the administration of the estate of a deceased person.
The Registry deals with the issuance and revocation of Letters of Administration for both real and personal estates, as well as all other matters directly or indirectly related to estate administration under customary law jurisdiction.

The Registry processes the following types of grants:
Issued when a person dies intestate (without a will) or where the will does not appoint executors. Granted to next-of-kin or entitled persons.
Issued when the deceased left a valid will appointing executors. Confirms the executors' authority to administer the estate.
Handles additional grants for unadministered estate portions and re-sealing of foreign grants under applicable laws.
