Inspectorate Department

Overview

The Inspectorate Department is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and ensuring compliance across all Zonal Courts and Customary Courts under the jurisdiction of the Customary Court of Appeal, FCT. It plays a critical oversight role in maintaining standards, quality of justice delivery, and procedural integrity at the grassroots level.

The department conducts routine inspection tours, reviews case registers, monitors judicial conduct, handles public complaints against subordinate courts, and recommends corrective measures.

Duties of the Inspectorate Department

• Routine and surprise inspection of all Area and Customary Courts in the FCT

• Audit of court record books, registers, and case files

• Investigation of public complaints and petitions against court staff

• Monitoring compliance with customary court rules and procedure

• Preparing and submitting periodic inspection reports to the Hon. President
