FCT Customary Court of Appeal Swears
in 48 Commissioners for Oaths
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Customary
Court of Appeal has sworn in 48 newly appointed Commissioners for Oaths as part
of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational structure within the Oaths
Department and to ensure availability of a Commissioner for Oaths at all
Affidavit Centers.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by
the President of the Court, Hon. Justice
Adekunle Stanley Lawal, FICMC, F.DRI, who administered the oath on the new
appointees. In his remarks, the Hon. President urged the Commissioners for
Oaths to view their appointment as a call to greater responsibility rather than
an avenue for self-aggrandizement. He reiterated the Court’s zero-tolerance
stance on affidavit racketeering, warning that anyone found culpable would face
the full consequences of their actions.
Delivering her welcome address, the Chief
Registrar of the Court, Haj.
BintaBabayo, Esq., reminded the Commissioners that the validity of many
legal documents rests on the integrity with which they discharge their duties.
She emphasized that the office of a Commissioner for Oaths is rooted in trust,
integrity, and service.
Following the ceremony, an induction training
was conducted for both the newly sworn-in and existing Commissioners. The
training, organized by the Oaths Department in collaboration with Cinfores Ltd, one of the Court’s IT
partners, focused on enhancing professional competence. Speaking on the
significance of the exercise, the Assistant Chief Registrar (Oaths), Aisha U. Goji, Esq., highlighted the
importance of continuous training in maintaining high standards within the
department.
We wish all the new Commissioners for Oaths
success in their new roles.
